This is just a stream of consciousness note that I kept throughout the day today but fleshed out slightly. Embeds won’t embed so it’s lots of links of things I like :) No emotions today!!
The Spinoff article that came out this week on music journalism, or lack off, was a talking point on Twitter. One tweet said how they listen to the Hahkoverse podcast for NZ music takes, one such podcast I fail to listen to. (Sorry Isaac, I read everything else!) Anyway, the past two work days I’ve been listening to old episodes, made better by hearing the voice of a friend but also put me onto this episode of Talkhouse podcast. Kevin Parker and Dan Snaith mention how they first met at Camp A Low Hum in New Zealand. I’m not musically talented whatsoever but I love hearing creative people talk about being creative, with other creatives.
Kevin spoke of how this Caribou album was an influence on him. My favourite way to find new music that I’m probably going to like is through artist playlists or recommendations.
I then had a quick scroll to find another artist I thought would be a good listen and came across Julia Jacklin’s conversation with Tamara Lindeman. “I have to continue living my life, having new experiences, and the music comes from that” She said this in relation to how she comes up with ideas for songs but I can relate to it in terms of how stuck I feel right now.
Both of these episodes were recorded in 2020, which is more fun to listen back to now than it was to talk about then.
I really love Julia’s visuals ~australia-puberty-blues-school-hall-warmth-vibe~
Thinking of ~warm australia~ I scanned a bunch of my dad’s slides for a university project years ago. I’m going to start watching Puberty Blues again tonight. I made a book of my parent’s old travel photographs, I’d love to make another of images of them at home.
QUICK FIRE BRAIN :)
My fave playlist at the moment is by Supreme. Their Spotify playlists are great. I’ve said it on Twitter and I’ll say it again here. I’m also listening to ML Buch and this Little Dragon EP.
It’s cold in New York which is probably why I’m obsessed with being in an Australian summer in the 80s.
Remember I already told you its cool when everyone starts wearing Bloch dance sneakers.

I take photos of everything to prove that it’s all connected.
